Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 2–3 dried red chillies (or 1 teaspoon red chilli flakes)
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon honey (optional, for balance)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup water
- Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions:
-
Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, toss the beef slices with 2 tablespoons soy sauce and cornstarch. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
-
Sear the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the beef and sear until browned, about 2–3 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
-
Cook the Vegetables: Add the remaining oil to the skillet. Stir-fry the onions, bell peppers, garlic, ginger, and dried chillies for 3–4 minutes until fragrant and slightly softened.
-
Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, black pepper, and water.
-
Combine and Simmer: Return the beef to the skillet and pour in the sauce mixture. Toss everything together and simmer for 2–3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the beef and vegetables evenly.
-
Serve: Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
